Current Market Summary

Corporate Treasury is entering an interesting phase in its evolution as organisations seek to maximise the impact of their treasury activities and the utilisation of treasury professionals. As ever, Treasurers have varying responsibilities dependant upon their organisation’s core requirements. So whilst some Treasurers have seen their profiles raised through a widening role remit to incorporate pensions, insurance and corporate finance responsibilities, others have become increasingly focused on the funding issues within their businesses.

Notable increases in Private Equity activity as well as the growth of treasury consultancies both within and external to the Big 4 have both contributed to a downturn in the recruitment of senior treasury professionals into commercial firms. However, both factors have also allowed the prospect for Treasurers to explore alternative career paths with the added factor of new hedge funds combining to provide a wider range of market options.
